‘Pupils flourish in the warm and positive atmosphere’
Spectacularly located in 27 acres of beautiful grounds in the Cathedral Close, Salisbury Cathedral School is a co-educational boarding, prep and choir school of around 200 pupils aged between three and 13.
The school’s particular strengths were highlighted by a recent ISI inspection. According to inspectors, ‘The spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils is excellent. Pupils flourish in the warm and positive atmosphere. They respond to the beauty of their school environment and show self-confidence because they are warmly encouraged and their achievements are celebrated.’
The school’s high academic standards were noted as follows: ‘Throughout the school, pupils have excellent attitudes to learning. They express their views confidently and listen carefully to their teachers and one another. Pupils’ mathematical skills are well developed and they show high levels of creativity in their poetry, story writing and in art. The provision for musical education is excellent and the school meets fully its aim to foster high academic standards and musical excellence’.
These high academic standards are evident in the outstanding achievements of recent scholarship and 11-plus candidates. Year 8 pupils did exceptionally well with 16 out of 22 pupils being awarded an amazing 24 scholarships to their first choice schools. The school’s 11-plus candidates also did extremely well with nine being awarded highly contested places at the local grammar schools and two passing the 13-plus.
In response to the ISI inspection Paul Greenfield, Head Master, said, ‘I am delighted that inspectors have highlighted the unique strengths of our very special school. This has been a fantastic year for us and next year looks even better, with pupil numbers increasing, three new teachers joining the staff and major investment in IT resources including the purchase of iPads for all our Years 7 and 8 pupils.’
